Now that you need to shop, how do you save money? I have found that one great tool is using manufacturer’s coupons. They come in the Sunday paper, you can find them in the grocery store attached to products or in a display called a “blinkie”, they can print out at the register as something called a “catalina” and you can find them and print them off the internet.
You need a way to organize those coupons. I have tried the envelope system, the tackle box system and several others. I have found the most effective one is the binder method. I have several categories that make sense to me. You can organize by aisle, by food type (dairy, snack, breakfast), or any other method that makes sense to you.
I used a Case-it 2-Inch Ring Zipper Binder to carry with me into the grocery store. The binder then zips open and sits nicely on the child seat area. I use Ultra Pro 25/9 Pocket Page Protectors and photo sheets to organize the coupons.
So, here is what I do. When I get the coupons in the Sunday paper, I clip them and organize them into my categories. Then, when the ads come, I look to see if there are items that are on sale that I have coupons for. I then pull those and put those in the front of the binder in baseball card holders that I use for each store. Then when I go to the store, I don’t have to flip back and forth to search for the coupon. I ALWAYS take my coupon binder with me to the store when shopping so that if an unadvertised sale comes up, or an item I might not use, but someone else I know might use, then I can pick it up for super cheap. You can make fun gift baskets for showers, weddings or gifts using items that you got on sale.
There are a few other tools I use to increase my savings at the grocery store – even some that pay CASH back. Keep your eyes open for those ideas later. We hope some of these tips will help you in saving money at the grocery store.
